Known
as Alaska's most beautiful sea-side town, Sitka is surrounded by island-studded
waters, majestic spruce forests, dramatic mountains and a towering volcano.
Accessible only by air or sea, this historic and scenic community
is situated on Baranof Island, nestled between forested mountains and the
Pacific Ocean, on the outer waters of Alaska's Inside Passage. Sitka's past is a
colorful blend of Tlingit culture, Russian history and Alaska's rugged natural
beauty. Incredible wildlife viewing opportunities can be found here,
as humpback whales, puffins, sea otters, sea lions and other marine life
populate the waters. You can take a picturesque boat trip or kayaking
adventure among nearby islands or charter a boat to nearby fishing grounds for
world-class salmon and halibut fishing. You'll also find numerous
historical and cultural tours that highlight the many Russian and Native museums
and attractions in Sitka.
